I am thinking to buy a galaxy note 3 in used condition, so i want to know will it be a good buy for 2017. Apps i usually use are snapchat facebook whatsapp and other social media app. Also i wanna know how long does the battery last.

Yes, it is a great smartphone for using social media app.
What about the battery, it will work a long time enough. I have bought the new battery for my phone and you can see the results on the screenshots:
